What is an adjustable spanner?

Adjustable spanners are tools often used in car garages. They are made out of metal, and their jaws are adjustable.

The latest developments have led to these types of spanners being coated in an isolating material, which means they can now be used to work on electrical components, and that they are now made out of reusable materials.
